Zeigam Azizov was born in Azerbaijan and currently
lives and works in London (UK). He was trained in art,
philosophy, and cultural theory in France, the UK, and
Austria. He holds a doctorate in philosophy and art
from Goldsmiths University in London and Klagenfurt
University in Austria.
Central to his work are questions about the image
in relation to time, migration paradigms, and
philosophical paradigms in contemporary art, which he
explores in videos, films, drawings, and installations.
He has exhibited his work worldwide, including
Artspace, Sydney (2017); Baku Yarat Contemporary
Art Centre (Azerbaijan, 2016); Marayah Art Centre
(Sharjah, 2014); the Venice Biennale (Azerbaijan
Pavilion, 2011 and Utopia Station, 2003), Tate Modern,
London (2006); House der Kunst, Munich (2004);
Grazer Kunstverein, Graz (2002), and TN Probe, Tokyo
(2001). In 2006, he was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn
Awards for Artists and shortlisted for the Decibel
Awards.
Zeigam Azizov is a regular contributor to Moscow Art
Magazine. He is also a member of the Institute for
Media and Communication at the Klagenfurt University
in Austria, where he lectures on visual culture.
